Business was largely conducted by one half of the human population, men, for thousands of years. That is changing – RAPIDLY. Over the last few decades, women have become increasingly active in business and some have reached senior levels in businesses around the world. Some women complain that the reason they are unable to reach more senior levels is because of a glass ceiling.

The many experiences of women – as daughters, sisters, friends and mothers – contribute to their leadership style. But, what serves them well in those roles are sometimes not in their own best interests in senior leadership positions in the business world.  That is the topic of the latest book by Sally Helgesen.  She teamed up with one of the leading business coaches, Marshall Goldsmith, and writes about how female professionals can change self-limiting behaviors which could help them become more successful. It is an extension of Marshall Goldsmith’s book, ‘What got you here won’t get you there’.

Sally Helgesen's work is widely regarded as the gold standard when it comes to women's leadership. Since the publication of her book, ‘The Female Advantage’ in 1990 (still in print), she has written six more books in the field and speaks to audiences all around the world about these issues.

How can women rise higher? We’ll find out from Sally. The interview is wide ranging and is particularly useful to women, and to men who work with women. Some of the topics you will hear covered include:

If you're a woman, you can become more successful by leveraging your own femininity and you can be a whole lot more successful if you build an inclusive web of women and men. Secondly, the importance of judgment and context – what is a strength in one situation could be a weakness in others. So, know your strengths, know your weaknesses and most importantly know your context so that you develop good judgment over time.
